The modern stage of world cultural evolution and the changes that occur in all areas of public life raise new problems in the realm of investigation. This article deals with the role of circus art in the modern topical problem of cross-cultural dialogue. Taking into account the specifics of culturology and art history, they are considered close and concordant with each other. Culture acts in this context as a human society existence form, in which cultural interaction among peoples is dominant on the modern stage of development. This article is the first attempt in the Ukrainian study of circus to execute the investigation of the role of circus art as a component of cross-cultural interaction; accordingly, it does not claim to be exhaustive. The culturological analysis investigates the role of circus art as a cultural phenomenon in dialogue, whereas art review outlines the peculiarities of this kind of art. The appeal to the problem of dialogue is based on the theoretical inheritance of such philosophers and culture experts as M. Bakhtin, M. Buber, V. Bibler, and M. Kagan. The investigation of circus art as a complex cultural phenomenon draws on the works of circus art theorists E. Kuznetsov, Yu. Dmitriev, A. Zhytnytskyi, V. Vladimirov, S. Makarov, and others. Additionally, the investigation employs the materials of the European committee of cross-cultural dialogue development in Europe. Circus art festivals and competitions were also thought-provoking. The goal of this article is to reveal the role and place of circus art in cross-cultural dialogic interaction.
