The Perception of Turkish Undergraduate Art Education Students on the Effect of Cultural Values through Artistic Representation

Culture is a quite important concept in the art education. Art education is a process in which students can find the ways of expressing their perception of culture through artistic representation. For this reason, it is possible to mention the art education as a rich resource which is used effectively in order to enable students to explain their cultures and to gain cultural awareness in terms of cultural values and cultural identity. The main aim of this study is to reveal art education students’ interpret and define their own artistic representation through own cultures. The research was carried on the basis of art-based inquiry pattern which is one of the qualitative research methods. The data of the study were gathered from 8 students from Anadolu University Fine Art Education Department in Eskisehir, Turkey in the form of artistic design process, artistic products and the interviews through artistic design process. The findings obtained were analysed and interpreted in terms of content analysis.

A.Dilek Kiratli currently holds a position as assistant professor in Department of Fine Arts Education at the Anadolu University, Turkey. She obtained a Arts and Crafts Education degree from Anadolu University in Turkey, and also a PhD in Anadolu University Institute of Social Sciences in Turkey (2005). Her broad research interests span the Arts Education, and she opened an 3 individual exhibitions and more than 60 joint exhibitions. In addition to these, she jointed 7 International Congresses.

Suzan Duygu Erişti is an assistant proffessor at the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies at Anadolu University, Turkey. She has a Ph.D. on art education with emphasis on interactive learning through visual supports. Her research interests include graphics design and implementation, and interactive instructional design.
